her three children, Lisa, David, and Lynda, granddaughter Morgan, and son-in-law David Coates.
Born in Gaspe, Quebec, Jean traveled with her family across Canada, living in Toronto and
Edmonton before settling in Vancouver.
After High School, Jean found work at the BC Telephone Co. (now Telus). While working at the
telephone company, she met and married the love of her life, George Hutchison. After having
her first child, Jean shifted her focus and energy from work to raising children. Once the children
were all in school, she decided to contribute as a volunteer at the Vancouver Aquarium as a
docent.
Jean and George’s love affair lasted 54 years until his death in 2012. In their later years, they
traveled the world, including Europe, Africa, South America, and Russia, and even earned an
‘Around the World’ certificate on one of their many cruises. Their true home away from home
was Maui, where they would spend several weeks every year during the winter months.
Jean was always welcoming and filled any room with joy. Her infectious laughter often set the
mood for others to share her enthusiasm for life. She filled our hearts with love and laughter.
A private gathering will be held at the Arbutus Club on January 28th at noon.
Donations to the Alzheimer's Society of BC are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
