It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of dear elder Joseph Kyle on November 10, 2022. He passed surrounded by love of family in Lionsgate Hospital, North Vancouver. Joseph was fondly known as Joe. Joe was born to his late parents Nancy (nee: Currans) and Alexander Kyle on March 15, 1947 in Glenvboig, Scotland, UK. He landed in Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in 1972. He met the love of his life late Vickie Kyle (nee: Nahanee) in 1975.
Joe worked at the Simons Steel mill(Boundary) until he became a homemaker for the Squamish Nation. Joe was a wonderful home maker for the Squamish Nation members for 20 years. In the 50 years he was in Canada, he never lost his accent! He was a little hard to understand when he was passionate about a subject, but it really showed how much he loved what he was talking about. Joe was funny, kind and compassionate. He never sugar coated his opinions he was a shoot from the hip kind of guy. He was the kind of dad who would lay down the laws, and get red in the face, then cry because it hurt him more than his children.
Joe was a great cook. He always made sure to feed anybody who came over, all the neighbourhood kids knew he would be making something awesome. Joe loved and respected the Squamish Nation culture. He attended many nation events. He will be best remembered for his boisterous laugh and sense of humour.
Joe is survived by and will be dearly missed by his children Victoria Nancy Videt Kyle, Cissie Elizabeth Kyle, Gilbert Anthony Nahanee; grandchildren Christopher Nahanee, Taylor Alexander, Brayden Broomfield; special daughter Barbara Guerrero, Ashleigh Hansen, Melissa Moody; special friend Robert Yelton and many loving relatives and dear friends.
