Kaye has lived a life of service since an early age. A committed warrior for human rights, Kaye worked and volunteered to eliminate barriers of all kinds, but particularly for women, seniors and people with developmental disabilities.
Kaye was a trailblazer long before the world was ready for the trail. As a native of Quebec, Kaye came out as a Lesbian before Quebec included sexual orientation in the human rights code in 1977.
Kaye, and the love of her life Lorie, adopted Michael in a private adoption six years before BC passed the adoption act for same-sex couples.
Well over a decade later, when BC finally legalized same-sex marriage, Kaye and Lorie were among the first to tie the knot!
And as a witness to friends and family who had suffered painful passings, Kaye was an early advocate for Medical Assistance in Dying.
Kaye was a loyal friend and a wonderful mom and sister. She was imbued with a great sense of humour and love of music (she was a terrific whistler)- gifts that she happily shared.
Kaye leaves her son Michael, sister Lynne, and many friends with rich memories.
Friends are invited to join Michael and Lynne for Kaye’s Celebration of Life March 31 at 4 PM at the Douglas Park Community Centre, 801 West 22nd Avenue, in Vancouver.
The family would like to personally thank Joc, Betsy, Patsy, Jane, Linda and Kaye’s many loving friends for their support and compassion throughout Kaye’s illness.
Special thanks also to Dr. Heather Jenkins and Dr. Dirk Coetsee for supporting Kaye and honouring her wishes.
In lieu of flowers donations to Douglas Park Community Centre programs or the Stephen Lewis Foundation https://www.stephenlewisfoundation.org/ would be appreciated.
