

Mrs. Catherine Kwan Fook YU MAK was born in Xiqiao in the County of Nanhai of Guangdong Province on March 15, 1934. She completed her secondary education in St. Paul Co-educational Secondary School in Hong Kong. As the eldest daughter of YU family, she helped her father to manage the watch business after graduation. Catherine has 3 sisters and 6 brothers, settled and lived in Hong Kong, US and Canada and worked in different professions.
Catherine met her husband, Henry Chee Fat MAK, at the watch store and got married in 1956. With their happy marriage, they have two sons and two daughters: Kitty Kit Sum, Bennet Sin Tung, Peggy Wing Sum and Jeffrey Sin Lai. Since the birth of their elder son, Bennet, Catherine resigned from her dad’s business and took up a clerical position with the Hong Kong Government Immigration Department until her retirement in 1989. After retirement, Henry and Catherine immigrated and settled in Vancouver with their sons – Bennet and Jeffrey. To date, the extended families have increased to fourteen members; with their daughter-in-laws – Kitty and Cecilia; son-in-laws, Fung Hong Chan and Kwok On Cheng; grandsons – Howard, Harris and Yannis; granddaughters – Chloe, Janelle and Yvette.
Catherine was kind, open-minded and considerate lady; she was well-respected by her brothers and sisters; well-loved by her sons and daughters, son-in-laws and daughter-in-laws; and her grandchildren. She was always patient, ready to listen, and offered her guidance. As a humble mother, she was always proud of her children who have built up their own family happily. The eldest daughter, Kitty followed their footstep to serve the Hong Kong Government Highways Department at supervisory level since graduated; his son, Bennet, is a hotel General Manager in Vancouver, with a Bachelor Degree in Hotel and Hospitality, and Master Degree in Business Administration from England; Peggy is a senior registered nurse in Hong Kong with a nursing degree and her youngest son, Jeffrey, is a senior computer professional in Vancouver, graduated from Information Engineering Degree with the Chinese University in Hong Kong.
Catherine was a quiet, pleasant and peaceful lady, she liked reading novels, magazines and newspapers; she was fond of tailoring clothes and knitting for all families; she also liked travelling and quietly appreciated the flowers and plants around her. All her beloved family members – daughters, sons, in-laws, grandsons and grand-daughters will always respect and remember her. Her kindness, patience, consideration, grace and gentle words will be remembered forever. May she rest in peace and in heaven with amazing grace.
