1936 - 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leo Laverne Fumano, born October 3, 1936 and passed away December 27, 2022 after a long and difficult, but valiant battle with dementia.
Leo was born in Red Lake, Ontario to Leo Fumano Sr., and Constance Ferrier. Although the family moved frequently, Leo settled in and spent most of his life in Vancouver, B.C., attending General Gordon Elementary School and Kitsilano Secondary School.
Leo left high school early and joined the Royal Canadian Navy at 17 years of age, and took significant pride in his naval service. The Navy gave Leo his first experiences of travelling the world and sailing the seven seas. Upon finishing his naval service, Leo took up various jobs, even working in the Arctic on the Distant Early Warning line (known as the DEW Line) and traveling to exotic locales such as Saudi Arabia. Well-travelled, he often bragged about having two full passports stapled together.
However, Leo's most significant international work was his decade spent in Vietnam from 1965 to 1975, where he met his wife Lien and had three children, Linda, Lisa, and Leo Jr.
Leo spent over two decades working as an electrician for the City of Vancouver, and prided himself on his work as an electrician.
Leo was a committed husband, father, and grandfather. He was very easy-going and even-tempered, known for making jokes and making everyone around him comfortable. He loved reading, talking to anyone, watching classic Hollywood movies, attending musicals at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and doing his crossword puzzles in the Vancouver SunHe touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Leo is survived by his spouse, Lien Fumano, his three children Linda, Lisa, and Leo Jr., and his five grandchildren Anya, Shyla, Brady, Leila, and Libby. He is survived by his older sister Donna and younger brother Gary. He was predeceased by his father, Leo Sr., mother Constance, and older sister Beverley.

Crossing the Bar
By Lord Alfred Tennyson
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea;
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep,
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark.
For tho’ from out our bourne of time and place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face,
When I have crossed the bar.
