With heavy hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Livia in her 83rd year. After a fabulous Christmas spent with family and dear friends, Livia died swiftly of natural causes in her Vancouver home with her loving companion, Dale, at her side. Livia will be lovingly remembered by: her daughter Candace Graydon and grandson David Rutherford of Port Alberni, BC; her life partner and best friend of the past 41 years, Mr. Dale Kapuschak; her cousin`s daughter Mrs.Veronica Lorenz and family of Los Angeles, CA; her beloved remaining cousins; her ‘extended’ Graydon family Lesley Graydon & son Sebastian Flynn, Zuska Graydon and daughters Justine Graydon and Yasmina (Jamie) Lyons; as well as near and dear close friends.
Livia was born in Wakaw, Sask., the only child to John and Nettie (Hawryschuk) Bilokury. Raised by her parents on the Bilokury farm, Livia was blessed to form strong family bonds with many aunts, uncles and treasured cousins. After attaining her Grade 12 from the Saskatoon Technical Collegiate Institute, Livia set out on her life path. In 1958, Livia married James Graydon of Hamilton, Ont. Their early years were spent traveling and exploring Western Canada as well as some parts of the United States. By the early 1960’s, Livia and Jim would call Vancouver, BC home. Actively involved in life at Exhibition Park, they enjoyed owning race horses and the lifestyle that went along with it. In addition to life at the track, Livia worked as a receptionist for Northern Electric before taking parental leave. In 1976, Livia returned to the world of work in downtown Vancouver's business district first as a part-time receptionist for the temporary agency at which she had applied, then for All Steel Canada and then for Daytek, a division of Daewoo, until she retired at the age of 62.
Livia met Dale Kapuschak in 1977, and in him, she found a trusted and dear companion. In their 41 years of fun together, Livia and Dale enjoyed several road trips and holidays throughout Canada and the United States. In fact, they managed to travel to Hawaii at least 30 times with the majority of their trips lasting from one to three months! In addition to their Hawaiian holidays, Livia and Dale thoroughly enjoyed trips to Arizona, Florida, Utah and the Utah Parks, the Oregon Coast, Louisiana, Colorado, New Mexico, the Redwoods of California, various Ghost Towns, as well as the infamous Bilokury Family Reunion Weekend that spurred a wonderful adventure through the Western Provinces to both of their familial roots in Saskatchewan.
Livia was a kind and gentle soul who displayed a heartfelt smile for everyone she met. A lady in the truest sense of the word, Livia carried herself with dignity and grace throughout all facets of her life. An amazing Mother, Nana and dear companion, we were all blessed to have a piece of Livia in our lives; not to mention her pyrogies and shortbread!
In accordance with Livia’s wishes, a formal service will not be held. Cremation and Interment at her beloved parents’ grave at Forest Lawn Memorial Park has taken place, officiated by the Basilian Fathers of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Should you wish to remember Livia, we encourage you to do so in Livia’s words, “as the Spirit moves you.”
Rest in Peace our Dear Mother, Nana and Beloved Snowba. You will remain forever in our hearts and memory.
