Mary (May) McParland (nee Docherty), 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 21, 2012
May was born on October 16, 1929 in Greenock, Scotland.
May grew up in Greenock, Scotland and married Hugh McParland in December 1951. They and their family immigrated to Canada in 1957, and they were happily married for over 60 years.
In addition to lovingly raising their three children, May enjoyed reading, movies, had a great interest in history, and spent many delightful hours working on crossword puzzles.
May was preceded in death by her son Alan
May is survived by her husband Hugh; son Brian; daughter Anne (Cooper); son in-law Steve; daughter in-law Sharon; and grandchildren Derek, Shannon, Katherine, Colleen, Ian, Siobhan, and Aine.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Finnish Care Home for their support and care over the last five years and to Vancouver General Hospital (ACE Floor) for their care in her final days.
During her stay at the Finnish Care Home, May was an active participant and enjoyed being with people. She was a very social person and was always fun to chat with, and most definitely had a great sense of humour.
A funeral service will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish, 1612 East 18th Avenue, Vancouver at 10 am on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in May’s name to the Finnish Care Home at 2288 Harrison Drive, Vancouver.
