‘Jeanie’ / ‘Jaws’ / ‘Sarge’
Sunrise: December 27, 1940 - Sunset: July 7, 2017
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Elder Mildred Jean Bomberry (nee Baker). Jeanie descends from the Baker/Jim and Newman/Fellardeau families of Squamish Nation. Jeanie was born to her parents May (nee Newman) and Ambrose ‘Ray’ Baker in Vancouver on December 27, 1940 and died peacefully surrounded by love of family on Friday evening at around 9:24 pm at NS Hospice. She was affectionately known Jaws or Sarge but most commonly addressed as Jeanie. Jeanie grew up on Mission IR No. 1 where she attended St. Paul’s Indian Day School but for most of her adult life she resided in Vancouver and Burnaby. Just recently she was very happy to be able to move home to Capilano IR No. 5. Jeanie had a sincere devout love for her family, especially her brothers, and her giving and caring spirit was well felt as she would support whenever needed. She also worked in local canneries but was well known for her volunteer work at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she helped with elders.
Jeanie is survived by and will be deeply missed by her children Natalie (Barry), Joanne (Keith), Kelly and Edward (Bernadette); grandchildren Amber, Dominick, James, Rachel, Thomas, Hunter, Marlo; great grandchildren Ty-Layla, Carter, Chloe; siblings Dory, Patricia, Lillian (Fred), Harry (Judy), Swede, Gary (Judy), Wayne, Ramona (Philip), Laura (Pete), Paul, Hugh (Kelly) and special sister Diane.
A prayer service will be held on Tuesday July 11, 2017 at 7:00 pm and a funeral service on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at 10:00 am both at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, 100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver, BC
