Born in Regina at Grey Nuns (Pasqua General) Hospital the only child of Edith (nee Lord) and Ernie Anslow she enjoyed an idyllic childhood on her parent’s farm; though hating farming. Attended grades 1 through 10 at Wascana School and Church and boarded in Lumsden to finish grades 11 and 12. The sudden sickness and death of her father meant the sale of the farm and moving to her aunt’s in Regina and placing her invalid mother in hospital. While working at Chicago Photo she was asked to a staff dance by Allan Dudlets. They were married 3 years later. Mildred continued to work in the payroll office at Simpsons yet visited her mother daily via streetcar.
Following the passing of her mother the two newly-weds spent a 5-year honeymoon in Toronto, where she worked payroll at Simmons and when transferred by Allan’s job - Montreal where their first son was born. Beginning a 25-year stint as a stay-at-home mother (Allan was a travelling salesman by that time) they were transferred back to Scarborough, buying a house but never moving in. Too soon they were transferred to Vancouver to follow Allan’s family where their other son was born. She volunteered as a Sunday School teacher at Knox United and assistant Cub Scout master with the 100th Southlands pack.
Financial troubles made her start back to work part time at the Dunbar Community Centre, followed by the cash office at Sears Harbour Centre and finally at the Sears Kerrisdale Catalogue sales office. The quick passing of her husband forced her to find another career; this time as a home-stay mother for foreign English Language students studying at UBC. Mildred retired in 1994 and moved to Richmond with her younger son. She passed fighting all the way.
Mildred is predeceased by 8 cousins, 3 nieces and 1 nephew. She is survived by sons Bill (Judy) and Jon, cousins Muriel Rose, Margot Forrest and Donald Anslow, 4 nieces and 1 nephew. Special thanks to her niece (flower girl) Gail James in Las Vegas for keeping in touch and the home care workers from Richmond Health. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Richmond Red Cross and the BC Cancer Agency. There will be no funeral per her request and interment will be at Forest Lawn in Burnaby.
