Johnston, Myrtle passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Myrtle is survived by her three daughters; Heather (Bruce), Wendy (Hugh), and Brenda. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Robina Thomson; her husband, Neill and her daughter, Sandra.
Myrtle was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She then lived in Montreal before moving to Vancouver where she graduated from King Edward High School. She worked for the Bank of Montreal and joined the Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRENS) before attending Normal School to become a teacher. She met Neill at Normal School and they were married in August of 1953. Neill and Myrtle lived in Doe River, Kaslo, and Vanderhoof before settling in Burnaby for over 50 years.
Her final four years were spent at Kin Village Care Home in Tsawwassen, where she received outstanding care and compassion. Our family could not have asked for a better team to support our mom in making her last years as comfortable as possible.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Kin Village Care Home or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated. A small, private service is planned for family and close friends.
