Nyuk Yin Loh

Nyuk Yin Loh was born on March 20, 1920 in Selangor, Malaysia, the daughter of Loh Onn and Ten Si Kiaw. She was third born of 5 children. She had an older brother, an older sister and a young brother and younger sister.

In her early years, Nyuk Yin attended Chinese language school in Kuching, Sarawak. She grew up in a home shaped by discipline, hard work, and deep familial values. As a young woman, she demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by running a coffee shop and a fruit stall, where she sold mangosteens, rambutans, and pomelos grown from the family garden.

During the Japanese occupation of Sarawak in the Second World War, Nyuk Yin met her husband, Yu Chung Kong. The two were married on April 23, 1947, and remained devoted partners for more than 65 years, until his passing in 2011.

Together, they raised four children and were later blessed with eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In July 1976, Nyuk Yin and her family immigrated to Canada, settling first in Fort McMurray, Alberta. There, she dedicated herself to her home and family, providing unwavering support as a homemaker. In 1984, she and her husband relocated to Richmond, British Columbia, where they acquired a small blueberry farm. Nyuk Yin spent the later years of her life tending the household, supporting her family, and participating in community and church life.

She was a quiet pillar of strength and generosity, known for her humility, resilience, and deep devotion to her family. Her warmth, gentle presence, and dedication will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.

Nyuk Yin Loh passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2025 in Richmond, British Columbia. She is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Her life was a testament to love, perseverance, and grace. Her memory and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who were privileged to know her.
