It is with love and gratitude that we said goodbye to our father, Peter (Panagiotis) Demiris on June 23, 2023. With love that he was with us for 91 years and with gratitude that he departed peacefully. Peter was truly blessed.
One of seven siblings born in Greece, Peter went to school where he studied textiles, served in the military as an airplane mechanic and later retired as an electrician from UBC. Shortly after immigrating to Canada, he married Tasoula and together they raised their three children: Sousana, Bill and Toula. Peter was blessed with four beautiful grandsons Peter, Eli, Theo and Luca and an incredible daughter-in-law, Terra. Uncle Pete was loved (and feared…lol) by so many of his nieces and nephews, who along with their children, admired him no matter what.
Peter was multifaceted. For those who knew him, there was stubborn, snappy Pete who wouldn’t budge if his life depended on it and then there was affectionate, adorable “Bubsy” who would do anything for you. Our dad shone with his strength, determination, and his dedication to family.
Peter enjoyed tending to his garden for hours, travelling, building and repairing his home and tinkering with anything electrical. You could find him with multiple pens, nail clippers, tiny scissors and screwdrivers etc. tucked into his pockets. He was a walking Swiss Army knife. And, whether you liked it or not, he would happily offer you lint covered nuts and candies from those same pockets.
Our mom was a huge reason that our father lived such an incredible life. They were constantly surrounded by friends and family—music blaring, dancing, singing, pee your pants laughter and drinking until all hours. They loved to party, and their door was always open.
In recent years some of those doors had closed due to the loss of his loved ones. Although his heart ached, it continued to remain open as he always felt that those who had departed were right next to him. It is our hope that he may be honored in the same way and that we all hold Peter close to our hearts as he begins his next chapter.
On behalf of our father, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to his incredible caregivers Glorina and Tess, who took such good care of him and put a smile on his face every day. Thank you as well to our family and friends who stepped in to support our father, showing your love both to him and to us in so many ways. Your kindness has touched us deeply.
Although Peter loved his garden, in lieu of flowers, he would greatly appreciate that a donation be made to a charity that is meaningful to you.
With all our love, we bid our handsome “Palikari” goodbye with three little kisses.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MountPleasantFuneral.com for the Demiris family.
