It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and husband Perikles (Perry) Georgios Tsakalos. Perry passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20 2022.
Perry was born in Aetos, Trikala, Greece on March 5, 1932. Perry was the eldest of six children and valued his role very much. Perry lived in Aetos until the age of 18 where he went and served in the Greek military reaching the position of sergeant. After his military obligations Perry worked a variety of jobs until he decided to move to Athens. This is where he worked as a street vendor selling pistachios, roasted chestnuts and grilled corn. In July of 1969 Perry left his homeland where he embarked on a new adventure and moved to Vancouver, B.C. Without a skill and a few dollars in his pocket, Perry eventually found a job being an electrician. Being a studious individual, he studied English at night while working during the day perfecting his vocation, eventually becoming a master electrician.
He began his electrical career with Blitz Electric before starting his own electrical contracting company, Marathon Electric Ltd. in 1981. Over the past 40 years with Marathon Electric, Perry completed countless projects including schools, universities, courthouses, offices, grocery stores, car dealerships, hotels and restaurants. He took great pride in every project completed.
Perry, his wife Anna and their two children George and Christina settled in Burnaby, a city he loved very much, and where he would continue to build his empire. He was a very proud man who thrived on hard work, doing his best to be successful and providing the most for his family. Perry will always be remembered for his funny, enthusiastic and charismatic personality. He loved to read literature, old and new, writing prose, reading and discussing world history and politics, Greek dancing and his Greek heritage.
Over the years Perry was greatly involved in the Greek community participating in many events and associations such as AHEPA, the Greek Summerfest on Boundary Road, and the Philhellenic Dance Group. He has many Greek friends in the community and a strong connection with Greek-owned restaurants in the lower mainland by doing electrical work.
Perry will be greatly missed and remembered by his children George & Christina, granddaughters Paris and Evianna, brother Pantelis and sister Evangelia, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Perry is now reunited with his mother Panayiota, father Georgios, brother Dimitris, and sisters Eleni and Chryssoula.
Funeral Services will be held at: St. Nicholas and Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church at 4541 Boundary Road Vancouver, BC at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 13th 2022, followed by the burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 3789 Royal Oak Ave Burnaby, BC at 12:30 p.m., and a luncheon after the burial back at St. Nicholas and Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church. Perry was a big believer in education so we ask in lieu of flowers please donate to AHEPA https://ahepacanada.org/ .
Echo
By Christina Rossetti
Come to me in the silence of the night;
Come in the speaking silence of a dream;
Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright
As sunlight on a stream;
Come back in tears,
O memory, hope, love of finished years.
O dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet,
Whose wakening should have been in Paradise,
Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet;
Where thirsting longing eyes
Watch the slow door
That opening, letting in, lets out no more.
Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live
My very life again though cold in death:
Come back to me in dreams, that I may give
Pulse for pulse, breath for breath:
Speak low, lean low
As long ago, my love, how long ago.
