Robert (Bob) Alexander Duff passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, at Sunrise of Vancouver, at the age of 91, surrounded by the unwavering love of his family: his daughter Kathryn and her husband Troy, his son Malcolm and wife Joanne, and his three cherished grandchildren—Tomas, Natalee, and Meghan. Though his final years brought many cognitive challenges, he remained optimistic and kind-hearted, always greeting others with a quick smile and a deep appreciation for those around him.
Born on April 5, 1934, in Birtle, Manitoba, Bob was the fourth of five children born to Alexander and Eva (McCann) Duff. He grew up alongside three older sisters—Shirley, Vivienne, and Nonie—and his younger brother, Glen. After some formative years in Winnipeg, the family relocated to East Vancouver following the end of World War II, where Bob would spend the remainder of his childhood.
Bob earned his degree in electrical engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1963. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Nieta (Wiedeman), with whom he shared a devoted life until her passing in 2017.
His professional journey included work with several firms and a brief stint in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, before founding his own company in 1972, R.A. Duff Company Ltd., an electrical consulting firm in Vancouver. For 24 years, he led the firm with integrity and dedication to his field, contributing to the design of schools, hospitals, and commercial projects across the region. His sharp business acumen and professionalism ensured the success and reputation of his company.
Bob and Nieta raised their family in Vancouver’s west-side, where they shared countless adventures—from sailing trips and softball games to ice hockey, bike hikes, and skiing excursions. Bob was never happier than when surrounded by children, family, and those he loved.
In retirement, he continued to embrace his passions—sailing the British Columbia coast aboard his beloved sailboat Pax, skiing, cycling, and traveling with Nieta and their wide circle of friends and family. He took great joy in sharing these experiences, always finding happiness in the company of others.
He will be remembered for his sense of humour, thoughtfulness, independent spirit, vision, and determination.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations can be made in memory of Robert Duff to the Georgia Strait Alliance, a local non-profit dedicated to conservation on the Salish Sea — a remarkable part of BC that Bob deeply cherished.
