Rose was born on July 2nd, 1924, in 12 Mile South, Revelstoke BC.
She later moved to Vancouver, BC where she raised a vibrant and beautiful family with her husband John.
Rose was pre-deceased by
John (2007) and son Wayne (2010)
survived by son Barry (Karen),
daughter Shelley Wharton (Paul),
daughter Donna (Greg),
sister Mildred Combatley (Kozek),
5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, extended family from her hometown, Revelstoke and her late husbands’ hometown, Gronlid, Saskatchewan.
Rose was an award-winning bird breeder and owner of the well-known Captain George’s Family Restaurant, happily employing her family.
Achieving top honours as a FIG Brevet Judge with Gymnastics Canada, Rose travelled the world judging at events like the World Gymnastics Championships & PanAm Games to name a couple.
In her later years, she enjoyed going to flea markets & garage sales with John, loved gardening, watching sports & looking after her cats.
This is a moment in our history that will not be forgotten, much like Rose.
She persevered through almost 100 years of challenges, beginning as a WWII “Rosie the Riveter”, welding with her soon to be husband John at the Burrard Dry Docks.
She was resilient, always looked ahead, overcame and would want us to do the same.
Thinking is better than knowing and looking is better than thinking. Look, learn and love. That’s what Rose did. We are lucky to have had her guide our lives and will forever be grateful for the many lessons she left us with.
Unfortunately due to the current COVID-19 crisis, the service will be limited to Rose’s children Barry, Shelley and Donna and their immediate family members.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Rose’s memory to help conquer this devastating virus.
