Sarah Marie Hammel was born in Vancouver, BC, and grew up in Burnaby. From the beginning, Sarah was beloved by the entire family. She was an adorable child who resembled her late Oma (grandmother), Kathe Hammel. With curly locks of hair, kind eyes, and a fun-loving streak, she melted all of our hearts in a way that only a baby girl could. She was an irreplaceable part of our 'clan,' as her late nani, Patricia Gibbs would say.
Sarah's friends would describe her as someone who was confident, funny, and who wore her heart on her sleeve. A common theme in her life was that she always honored and prioritized family. One of her proudest moments was performing a song for her brother Ryan with her father Tom, at her brother's wedding in 2021. Any conversation with her would invariably shift to her family, especially her grandparents. Her family had an impact on her and she clearly valued that.
Sarah had her struggles in life just like we all do, and just like the rest of us, she was on her own path of trying to find meaning and happiness. When we remember Sarah, let us be kinder to one another, to live life fully, and to always prioritize our connections with each other above all else. Sarah is mourned by her mother Karen (& Dave), father Tom (& Anita), brother Ryan (and Jessica), niece Chloe, grandfather Ed Gibbs and her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends
