Satya Pal Singhal

January 16, 1935 – June 20, 2025
Obituary of Satya Pal Singhal
IN THE CARE OF

Vancouver Memorial Services and Crematorium

It is with great sadness that the family of Satya Pal Singhal announces his passing on Friday, June 20, 2025.

Satya Pal passed peacefully at home in the presence of his family. In his final weeks, he was lovingly and devotedly cared for by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Padma. He is survived by and will be loving remembered by his children, Meena (Pierre) and Manoj (Rama). He was the proud and loving grandfather of Anita, Devin, Arun, Asha, and Ameya. Throughout their lives he was a beacon of support. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and his loving presence will be deeply missed.

Born and raised in New Delhi, he was the first-born child of Naval Singh and Kailashvati Singhal, and proud elder brother to his sister and five brothers.

Satya Pal had a passion for chemistry and earned his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Delhi. He shared his passion for science as a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi. He came to Canada in 1964 to further his studies through a fellowship at Dalhousie University, followed by a second fellowship at Carleton University. Satya Pal and Padma settled in Ottawa for a year, where their cherished daughter Meena was born. The family moved to Sackville, New Brunswick where they welcomed their beloved son Manoj into the world and Satya Pal served his community as a chemist with the RCMP. The young family moved to Richmond in 1974, where Satya began his career with Health Canada in the Food and Drug Administration. It was here in BC where they built a community and established friendships that would last a lifetime.

Throughout his life Satya Pal had a passion for gardening. He took great pleasure in tending to his roses and caring for his kitchen garden and fruit trees. He was famous among friends for his spinach pakoras. He was one of the founding members of the Jain Center of British Columbia and will be remembered fondly by the Jain community of BC. Above all else, Satya Pal deeply valued education and inspired his siblings, children, and grandchildren to seek every opportunity for learning and personal growth.

As per his wishes, the funeral will be a small ceremony for family and a few close friends.
