Shirley May Davis
July 12, 1927 – November 4, 2019
Having checked off all the boxes on her “to-do” list, the ever-organized Shirley May Davis (nee Boyd), matriarch of our family, left this earth peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on November 4th, 2019 surrounded by her family. Shirley was a Widow, Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend. She was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba on July 12, 1927 and was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Beverly Ian (B.I.) Davis in July of 2018. Shirley’s life legacy was family, friendships, and hospitality. Loved and adored by her sons Ian and Keith, daughter’s in-law Charlotte and Lynn, and grandchildren Kyle, Amanda, and Luke. Raised in Bethany, Manitoba as one of 11 children of Rose and Arthur Boyd, Shirley often referred to herself as a “Big Strong Prairie Girl”. Proud of her Manitoba heritage, Shirley is survived by her sisters Leone Sparrow and Wilma Richardson, and her brother Jack Boyd. At 19, Shirley moved to Vancouver where she met and later married B.I. in July of 1948. Shirley was employed at Woodward’s until Ian came along in 1954, followed by Keith in 1958. Together, Shirley and B.I built their family home at 450 N. Glynde Ave in Burnaby. They raised their family and lived there for more than 60 years, before moving to their final home at the Westerleigh in West Vancouver. Shirley and B.I. spent countless hours building and enjoying time at their treasured cabin at Cosy Cove. Together they loved to entertain friends, family, neighbours, business associates and were famous for their annual Boxing Day open house with an open door and heart to all. Family was always Shirley’s number one focus. With their many trips to Manitoba to maintain those close ties, Shirley took a keen interest in following her growing number of nieces, nephews and extended family. Shirley’s positive outlook, hard work, and dedication never wavered. She will be forever missed by dear friends, Fernie, Darla, Bunny, Alanna, Marguerite and Agnes. Reunited now with her devoted B.I., they’ll be walking hand in hand on the beach in their much-loved Maui. The Family are planning a Celebration of Shirley’s life in early 2020.
