Shirley Grace Duff of Vancouver passed away on September 12, 2023 to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Predeceased by her parents, Alexander Henry Duff in 1967 and Eva Winnifred Duff (nee McCann) in 1997, Shirley became the matriarch of the Duff family.
Predeceased also by her younger sisters, Winona Ruth Sanford (Tom Needes) and Vivienne Caroline (late Jim) Yoder, Shirley leaves behind brothers Robert Alexander (late Nieta Wiedeman) and Wilbur Glen (Sharon Stewart). Shirley also leaves behind several nieces and nephews all of whom she loved and admired.
Shirley and her four siblings were born in Birtle, Manitoba, lived in Winnipeg for a few years during World War II, then moved to south Vancouver in 1945 where Shirley and her siblings all graduated from John Oliver High School.
She worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company for a time before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) serving in Canada, Luxembourg, and Germany. She very much enjoyed her years overseas and friends made in Trenton, Ontario. Upon retirement Shirley returned to Vancouver to live with and care for her mother in her final years. She helped to found the RCAF Airwomen for retirees, organizing a number of reunions, and took many cross-Canada trips, visiting family and friends along the way.
The Duffs were a close Christian family and incredibly blessed for many decades. Shirley was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in south Vancouver, where she served in the choir and in various administrative activities until her last years spent in assisted living at Crofton Manor. We are thankful for the many staff and providers that helped with her care.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hamiltonharronfunerals.com for the Duff family.
