Vina and I were good friends in high school in Kitimat. She often came to my home for lunch. We lost touch when we both moved away from Kitimat to attend different universities, but had a wonderful reunion in 2019 when I met her in Vancouver and we spent 10 days together travelling in B.C. Our itinerary included Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Kitamaat Village, where we stayed with Vina’s brother Lloyd, and all the towns on the drive back to Vancouver, as well as Shuswap Lake. I learned a lot from Vina and feel blessed to have made that trip with her. My deepest condolences to Vina’s family. She was a unique and special person.

I am so sorry to hear of Dear Vina's passing. My sincere Condolences to her family. I met and knew Vina from our early teen years in Namu B.C. The fun times we shared as young ladies I shall remember always. We worked so hard at cannery, and still had the time and energy to go dancing on the weekend after a week of long tedious hours of washing fish in the plant. Sweet Memories of those wonderful days of our early teen years my dear friend. Rest is Sweet Wonderful Peace my Dear Friend. With Respect Connie (Humchitt) & Glenn Tallio.

Vina and I shared many trips from Vancouver to home and back and my spirits always lifted when I saw her at the Terrace airport, knowing that I was in for another tale swapping, fun flight south. She was wise and full of compassion and always up for a good laugh. So sad to know she has passed.

Always my saviour when I was going to school, walked me home , waited till I got to door before she went on her way. Her big beautiful smile was contagious. I admired her as I was growing up , she was so sure of herself , sharp dresser. Confident . Then she become a lawyer, wow. Rest in Peace , Vina 🙏

I went to law school with Vina far too long ago. I lost touch with her after that, but have very fond memories of her kind and helpful nature. I am so sorry to hear she has passed away.

Heartfelt condolences to Vina's family and friends.
Vina became a friend when we attended the United Church's Christian Leadership Training School in Naramata, BC in 1962-63. As recent high school graduates we were searching for a purpose and meaning to life and our futures. Vina found her purpose in the law and worked tirelessly to enrich the lives of those who relied on her legal services.
Although separated for years, we renewed our friendship in retirement, enjoying many social times together. Her smile, sense of humor, storytelling, and raucous laughter will be fondly remembered. I will long cherish the happy times we shared -- in those carefree days as teenagers and later as retirees!

Vina did what few do - she left this world better than she found it; she had purpose; and she made time for those she loved. We're poorer for losing her.

This is such sad news. Vina was a classmate at UBC Law, an articulate, generous and kind person with a clear vision about what she was doing there and the path she wanted to follow. The world is a better place for her having been in it.

I was at law school with Vina in the early 1980s, and remember her as a warm and generous colleague. Gone too soon. I will be thinking of her loved ones in these days.

I’m so sorry to hear of Vina’s passing. My deepest condolences to her dear ones.
I remember her very clearly from our law school days, and the years following while we were practising law. What I remember most about Vina was her courage and her strength.. She was a trailblazer and passionate about Indigenous rights. I admired how she did not mince words. Her point of view was always clear and always necessary to hear.
Thank you Vina.

I grew up two years ahead of Vina in Kitimat. We did not really become friends until we both retired. We always shared fond memories of our childhood in Kitimat and she helped very much to connect me with her Kitamaat Village. I looked forward always to her phone calls to me in Quebec. She was bright and hugely supportive of her native history. She could speak Haisla and tell great stories. I always encouraged her to write a book about the Haisla. Now she will go back to Michael and to her wonderful parents.
I extend my sympathy to Lloyd, Mary and all family members.
God bless.
