Thinking of a dear friend on this day, as I do on many other days.  Wendy and I met in the early 1970s so shared many memories, working together, visiting our respective families, attending the Legion for their meat draws and a pint of course.  Wendy always insisted on a coaster for her pint, which made me smile.  She was a loyal friend and is sorely missed.

Wendy left us three years ago and I miss her every day. We had so many adventures together; we shared laughs and sorrows equally. Even in her final days Wendy showed concern for others,  kept complaints mostly to herself and asked for little.  She continued to take pleasure in little treats like her favourite ice cream and a balloon bouquet. Wendy was truly one of a kind and those of us privileged to be her friends were all blessed.

I met Wendy in Paris  many years ago  where she was taking lessons at Alliance Francais.    We traveled to  Spain  France  Italy  and Greece with a friend of mine from New Zealand  .  Wendy helped me at a crucial point in my life and I will never forget her kindness .  She was adventuresome bright and just a lovely person.     I have a vivid memory of several Italian soldiers on leave  dropping to their knees in San Marco Square  Venice to serenade her beauty . 

It is with great sadness that I am writing on an obituary page for my dear friend, Wendy.  This was not where I expected to find her.  She had been back east for quite some time and we had planned one of our adventures for when she returned.  I first met Wendy in 1996 when I started working for the BCMA.  She was the archivist, a co-worker and my mentor.  Since we have both been retired, we enjoyed a variety of adventure days.  Those days involved a chosen area of the city or a chosen subject, i.e., fabric and sewing, knitting, furniture and such…   We would plan what shops we would stop at, where we would have lunch, and find a great place for coffee and a sweet at the end of our adventure.  We were planning just such an adventure for as soon as possible after she returned from back east.  That never happened, of course…  And, I realize now more than ever just how much her friendship meant to me.  I miss her… and I will continue to miss her.  She was a very special person.  She was interested in pretty much everyone and everything.  She was very present for life and all the people in it, and she was truly kind.  I am so grateful that I got to know her… and I miss her very much.  A big thank you to Wendy… thank you for being you!!!  Rest well, my dear friend.  With love and gratitude,  Nancy

Wendy and I were friends for over 45 years.  Her nickname was "Wendy the wise" as she always gave sage advice, although I did not always take it, much to her chagrin.  Wendy, our friend Joan, and I celebrated her 70th birthday at Harrison Hot Springs, where we had a grand time.  I have many photos of Wendy taken over the many years of our friendship.   Wendy will always remain near and dear to me and greatly missed.
