Wilhelm (Bill Banek) was born in Neu-Sarata, Bessarabia to Benjamin Banek and Otilie Mogck on November 13, 1925. Wilhelm was one of eight siblings, Lilli, Maria, Edmund, Lenchen, Otto, Marta, and Elisabeth.
Wilhelm married Ella in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on the 26th of May, 1949. In 1951 they immigrated to Canada. Their Marriage was blessed with the birth of two boys, Harry and Manfred.
Bill worked in construction as a brick layer before starting his Masonry business. Bill and Ella worked together to build a family, a business and a home. In 1959 they moved to Vancouver and 1972 they settled in their final family home. Wilhelm lived in this home until his death.
Bill was a man of few words and simple pleasures. He enjoyed a good meal with family and sitting in the sun. He was known to be a hardworking man with great resolve but also loved to have a good time. Bill was a great storyteller and quick with a punchline. We will remember his smile.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Ella & son Manfred. He will be fondly remembered by his son Harry and wife Jill. Daughter-in-Law Alys. Grandchildren Kevin, Greg & Amanda, Ryan & Vanessa, Artemis, & Ariel. Great granddaughters Eloïse & Darcie.
