May 2, 1932 – April 12, 2019
Zenia passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family and those who cared for her on April 12, 2019. She leaves behind her loving husband of 66 years, Theodore (Ted), children Georgia, Harry Thomas, Cynthia (Matt Cicci), grandchildren Stephanie (Dustin Drews), Hannah (Vilhelm Sundin), Lusia, John, Harry, Alexia, Sofia, great-granddaughter, Avery and many relatives in Athens, Greece. She is predeceased by her parents, Voula and George Evans, as well as her brothers Achilles and Harry.
Zenia was born and raised in Vancouver and grew up in the Dunbar area. Soon after her graduation from Lord Byng Secondary School, she met and married her sweetheart, Ted. Together they raised their family and played an active role in the Greek community, and Zenia became a member of the Daughters of Penelope. Zenia lived and loved life. She loved to travel and had a passion for the arts, particularly music.
Zenia is derived from the ancient Greek name, Xenia, meaning courtesy and hospitality. To say Zenia lived up to her name would be an understatement. She displayed unparalleled generosity, warmth, and kindness to family, friends and strangers alike. She had a vibrant soul, and an incredible ability to find beauty and wonder in everything and everyone. She truly was a “Yaya” to everyone she met.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers who loved and cared for Zenia, particularly Lilibeth who was by Zenia’s side for the last 5 years.
Zenia will be remembered for her love of family and was an example to us all. We will cherish the memories she has given us. Prayers will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 6:00 pm at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver, B.C. where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 23 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
