Ann Clara (Barker) Pohrman was born December 15, 1914, and stepped into Eternity with her Savior on August 8, 2018, just four months short of age 104. She was prepared and at peace in that moment God took her Home. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church for over 65 years.
Ann was born to Thomas and Agnes Kula and raised in the farming community of Duncan, Nebraska. Her chores on the corn farm gave her the identity of a real “Cornhusker!” She graduated from Duncan High School in 1932. In the early 1940’s, she moved to Vancouver to find work in the Kaiser Shipyards. There she met Joel L. Barker, a Supervisor, and soon after they were married. In November of 1943, Ann delivered a son, Gary Joel Barker. Two and a half years later, Ann and Joel divorced. Down the road, she met Walter A. Pohrman, a carpenter at Kaiser and they were married. Walter passed away January 1, 1988. He was survived by 3 sons from a previous marriage.
Ann enjoyed about 37 years working for Vinton and Helen Erickson as a field boss, planting strawberries, etc. She loved the Erickson family and appreciated their friendship--Helen was a dear friend to this day. Ann also volunteered over 52 years at the Cancer Thrift Shop on upper Main Street where she made many long-lasting friendships. She was awarded a plaque for Outstanding Service and Leadership in the Residential Crusade.
Ann is survived by her son, Gary J. Barker (Verla), 2 grandsons, Randy Barker (Heidi) and Chris Barker (Jen), 3 great-grandsons, Joel, Levi & Cade Barker, step-son, Roy Pohrman, step-grandson, Dennis Pohrman and many step-great grandchildren. Ann is also survived by her nieces, LouAnn Tenopir and Linda Potter, her nephew, Kenny Gierke, and their families. At Ann’s request, there will be no service.
Our sincere thanks to Olympia Harris and her family for the excellent, loving care at Olympia’s Adult Care Family Home.
