

Hal Firestone passed away July 26, 2015 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born to Altha Cooper and LaVerne Firestone on February 23, 1924 in Vancouver, Washington. He was the eldest child with two younger sisters and one younger brother. He grew up on a farm in Fruit Valley and spent most of his life living in the same area.
After starting his education at Oregon State University majoring in Engineering, he enlisted in the army. During World War II he was stationed in the European and Japanese theaters. After the war he resumed his studies at Oregon State University where he met his wife, Jean Raddatz. After graduation Hal accepted an engineering position at Alcoa in Vancouver, WA.
Hal was very active in community and church. He will be remembered as loving husband, father, and for having a strong work ethic. He was always kind and a gentleman. He loved to travel and enjoyed being with friends and family.
Hal is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Dorene, and two sons, Dave, Stan, brother Merril, sister Ardele, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Maxine. Donations may be made in Hal’s memory to First United Methodist Church Foundation Scholarship Fund.
