

Herb was born on November 13, 1926 to parents Herbert W. and Helen Giles. After graduating from high school Herb enlisted in the Navy and honorably served his country during World War II. Soon after being discharged from the service he married the love of his life, Doris Lorraine Stewardson on March 27, 1948. Compassionate and devoted to Doris, Herbert held endearing, traditional values about marriage and family life. He took the responsibility of marriage to heart, giving it his total commitment. It was extremely hard for him when Doris passed away in May 2003.
Herbert greatly enjoyed what he did for a living. He was a hard worker who expected the same in return from his co-workers who all loved and respected him . He worked primarily as an Assistant Vice President for First Interstate Bank of Oregon.
Herbert Richard Giles passed away on January 19, 2011 at his residence in Portland, Oregon. He leaves to cherish his memory , children; Trish Walters (Doug), Marcia Green (Randy) and Mark Giles (James) Grandchildren: Kristin Green, Dan Green, Emily Walters and Natalie Walters. A brother, Dale Giles (Nancy) and a sister Nancy Anderson (Bob) and a host of extended family and friends. A memorial service is planned for 11:00am on Thursday, January 27, 2010 at Vancouver Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Washington. Herbert will be laid to rest in Willamette National Cemetery with military honors.
Commitment is a key word that can be used to describe the life of Herbert Richard Giles. He was committed to living the life of a good man who was both practical and trustworthy. He was committed to the traditional values that he upheld his entire life. He committed himself to being a hard worker who expected the same effort in return from those around him. Most of all, he was committed to those he knew and loved.
