Joel Hugh Sandberg, 60 of Vancouver WA, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018. He was born on February 17, 1958 in Portland, Oregon to James and Jean (Sutherland) Sandberg. He graduated in 1976 from Benson Polytechnic High School and attended Portland State University. Joel married Kimberly Ann Marie Hanson on October 27, 1990 in Vancouver, Washington.
Joel worked as a detention officer for Clark County for 30 years and with Youth Outreach for 5 years. He was a member of Vernon Presbyterian Church in Portland, Oregon and Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, Washington. Joel was an avid Seahawk and Mariner fan and an avid reader. He loved chess, fishing, backpacking, camping, golf and poker.
Joel is survived by his wife Kim Sandberg of Vancouver WA; son Colin Sandberg of Whitefish MT; daughter Callie Sandberg of Vancouver WA and sister Janet Starosciak (Michael) of Portland OR.
A visitation will be from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Thursday, May 31, 2018 and on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 E. 12th Street in Vancouver, Washington. A Celebration of Joel’s Life will be at Crossroads Community Church. Private interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
