Lois Miriam Schroeder passed into Glory from her home at Touchmark Retirement Center in Vancouver, WA. They called it “heart failure” but her generous heart and love of life kept going well into her 100th year. Her journey began at home in Tigard, Oregon, the 2nd of seven children of Harry A. and Louise Multnomah (Trappe) West—her mother was also a native Oregonian. As a young woman, Lois summited Mt. Hood from Government Camp—because Timberline Lodge had not yet been built.
As an elevator operator at the original downtown Portland Meier and Frank store, she had her ups and downs. One of the ups was the day a passenger, Rev. Win Schroeder asked her for a date. They were married in Portland in the old Trinity Lutheran Church on June 27, 1939. Together they served Grace Lutheran Church in Tacoma, WA, where 4 of their 5 children were born. In 1950 they were called to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Honolulu, Hawaii where their fifth child was born.
Missing the Northwest they moved to Vancouver, WA in 1960 to serve Memorial Lutheran Church. Upon retirement, the adventures continued as they travelled the world. Rev. Schroeder died in 2004, or as he put it, was “promoted to Glory.”
A life-long learner, Lois read voraciously up until she started her last Great Adventure. She was looking forward to joining Win, and her Savior Jesus whom she faithfully loved and served all her life.
