Waldon Marcellous Groves, the son of Adolph and Mabel Groves was born December 25, 1915 in Forest City, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and graduated from Forest City High School in 1934 and from Waldorf College in 1938.
He acquired a job with Bankers Life Insurance Company of Des Moines, and then in 1940, he became sales manager for the Life Savers Corp. of Port Chester, NY, headquartered in Detroit, MI. Soon after, he was drafted into the Army for the Great War, WWII. After the war he became a salesman for the Cherry River Paper Co. out of North Carolina with his office in Whittier, CA. The company merged into the Kieckhefer Eddy Container Company and he was made sales manager for the Pacific Northwest with offices in Portland, OR. In 1957 the company merged into Weyerhaeuser Co. from which he retired in 1975 at the age of 60. He then went into farming; raising beef cattle, grain and harvesting timber.
Waldon was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway, the Elks Club and also a member of the American Legion, the Navy League and the Grange.
Waldon is survived by one son, Matthew Groves of Vancouver, WA; two daughters, Anita Rhodes of Tacoma, WA and Heidi Blecha of Scottsdale, AZ and four grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR on January 31, 2013, 11:00am.
