Alexander was born in St.Elizabeth, Jamaica and immigrated to the United States with his wife in the 60’s where he became a resident of Larchmont, New York & a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church in the Bronx, New York before retiring in North Port, Florida. During his time in New York, Alexander was an extremely hard working long and short haul truck driver and member of the Teamsters Union for 35 years as well as a very proud New York volunteer firefighter for over 30 years.
Alexander loved being a truck driver & enjoyed studying maps even until his passing. As a truck driver, he knew & drove every street and highway throughout the 5 boroughs of New York and interstates throughout the North East and enjoyed studying the roads across the country.
He often reminisced about the ‘good ol days’ with CB radios and communicating with other truck drivers with their special lingo.
An avid sports fan just like his wife, Alexander spent his weekends while in New York attending the family football games from Pop Warner through High School where his daughter was a cheerleader and sons played football. He often drove to watch and cheer on Jamaican participants at the Penn Relays every year, attended numerous US Opens and HBCU (Historical Black College and University) Football Classics at Giant Stadium. In retirement he continued his love & passion for sports especially tennis.
Known as ‘Pops’ to so many, Alexander with the help of his wife created experiences and a home where family and friends (especially the children’s friends) could be blessed. A proud husband, father and grandfather, Alexander loved sharing stories and updates about family accomplishments with fellow church members and familiar faces at his local Publix.
He will be remembered for his love for the Lord, his intellect & wit, his passion for reading, writing & education, and his signature hats he always wore.
Alexander was preceded in death by his devoted wife Maiselyn of 47 years and his parents.
He is survived by a large family including children; Howard, Renee, Leighton; 17 grandchildren, a sister, sister-in law, nieces, nephews & cousins located in both Jamaica and the US.
