Andy was born and raised in Michigan and moved to Oklahoma in 1981 to join his brothers, Jontie and Wayne, after serving in the U.S. Navy. He met and soon married Karen Mathis, and together they made their home in Tulsa. Andy worked for the Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) in Tulsa for over 35 years before retiring.
Those who knew Andy saw a man who was reserved and often quiet, but deeply kind and caring. While he and Karen did not have children, Andy remained close to his family and was a steady presence in their lives.
Andy is survived by his companion, Ronda Newman, his brother, Jontie, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and many close friends who will remember his gentle nature and quiet warmth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, his parents, Willard and Joyce, and his brothers, Wayne and Gary. In the years that followed Karen’s passing, Andy pursued his love of live music, especially rock and blues, and took numerous trips, relishing new experiences. In his final chapter, Andy had recently moved to Florida, having found new love. His passing was sudden and unexpected, and while his loss is difficult to make sense of, those who loved him take comfort in knowing that he lived his later years with passion and intensity.
A memorial will be scheduled this coming summer when the family will gather to inter Andy with his father and brother Wayne in the Pleasant Valley cemetery just outside of Schoolcraft, MI.
