A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, at Gulf Pines Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice or Suncoast Humane Society.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Claire Arnold and George Clark Williams; her in-laws, Georga and LeRoy Edgar; her sister-in-law, Sharon Kay Van Dyke and her husband, Thomas Van Dyke; and her beloved dogs, Monte, Missy, Princess, Tyler, and Sammie Jo.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Thomas L. Edgar Jr.; her daughter, Julie Edgar, and partner Mickey Jorgensen of Rotonda West, Florida; nephew Jeff Van Dyke and his wife, Heather, of Shawnee, Kansas; and niece Jennifer Winters of Branson, Missouri.
Known affectionately as "Annieru," Anne's life began under challenging circumstances. Her mother, Dorothy, was hospitalized with tuberculosis when Anne was born and was never able to live with her. Anne spent portions of her childhood living with her father, George, including several years in Florida, but was primarily raised in Kansas City by Esther Bowman. By the time she entered high school, both of her parents had passed away.
Anne graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City in 1950. After attending business school, she worked for 17 years as a secretary in Kansas City's Board of Trade Building.
In 1957, Anne married Tom Edgar, after being introduced by Esther Bowman and Georga Edgar, who were bowling friends. Seven years later, they welcomed their daughter, Julie, who remained Anne's greatest pride and joy.
As a devoted stay-at-home mother, Anne never missed one of Julie's activities. She embraced life as a proud "golf mom," active Shrine wife, and enthusiastic participant in family vacations to Siesta Key and Table Rock Lake.
When Julie left for the University of Iowa in 1982, Anne returned to the workforce. After two years at Wooton's Drug Store, she found her favorite role working in the pharmacy at Bruce Smith Drugs in Overland Park, Kansas, where she spent 12½ years. The friendships she made there became lifelong treasures and led to many years filled with country dancing, travel, laughter, and good wine.
In 1996, Anne and Tom retired and settled in their dream destination, Rotonda West, Florida. Over the years they moved into four different homes, each requiring the relocation of Anne's cherished collections and extensive wardrobe, a feat her friends will fully appreciate. Anne took great pride in her home, especially during the holidays. She loved Florida's sunshine, her many friends, her dogs, still a good glass wine, and beachcombing adventures that left few shells uncollected from Sarasota to Boca Grande.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Brookdale Rotonda West and Tidewell Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided during Anne's final year.
Anne will be remembered for her resilience, devotion to family, loyalty to friends, spirited sense of fun, colorful wardrobe, and her remarkable ability to make every house feel like a home. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
