Barbara Marie MacFarland

Barbara Marie MacFarland, age 83, a longtime resident of Rotonda West, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026. She was surrounded by her two sons, Scott and David Hilliard, and her stepdaughter, Nancy Lake.

Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Howard MacFarland, with whom she shared more than 16 years of marriage. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary Hughes. In the 1990s, Barbara relocated to Southwest Florida and quickly embraced it as her home.

Barbara had a true zest for life. She loved her community, the beauty of the Florida landscape, homemaking, interior design, gardening, antiques, and a good shopping trip to Bealls. Above all, she was a woman of deep faith, devoted to her family, and a passionate animal lover who especially cherished her beloved cat, KitKat.

In addition to her husband, Howard, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Hilliard, and her brother, William Hughes. She is survived by her brother, Robert Hilliard; her stepdaughters, Nancy Lake and Janet Glovach; her sons, Scott and David Hilliard; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, faith, and love of life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
