Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Webb; father, Harry Webb; brothers, Johnny Webb and Ray Webb; and sister, Pat Bowman. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Dan Sandberg; her son, Matthew Sandberg and his wife, Megan Sandberg; her daughter, Sunni Sandberg; and her twin sister, Cathy Fusco, and her husband, John Fusco.
Carolyn graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in 1968. That same year, Carolyn won the Miss Kagel Canyon beauty pageant. After high school, she attended a school of accounting in Southern California.
Carolyn spent much of her career working in accounting. Her first employer was Heliotek, a company that specialized in solar cells for the aerospace industry. When Carolyn was in her 20s, she moved to Oregon, where she lived in Oregon City and Portland. In her 20s and early 30s, she continued to work in accounting at Precision Cast Parts and Rays Food Services. She eventually settled in the mountain community of Zig Zag, Oregon, where she met Dan. They married in 1981 and shared 45 years of marriage together. In this sleepy mountain town, they raised their children, Matthew and Sunni.
Earlier in life, Carolyn loved oil painting, and many of her hand-painted landscape scenes are still enjoyed by her family today. She enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing, and traveling. Carolyn had a passion for photography, and her children were some of her favorite subjects, along with landscape scenery and sunsets. Carolyn absolutely loved the Oregon Coast, and in her opinion, the only way to visit was from an oceanfront room where she could hear the waves crashing on the beach. Many vacations, especially her birthdays, were spent at the Oregon Coast with loved ones.
Carolyn loved music. She enjoyed listening to James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, The Beatles, and many others, but her favorite was always Neil Diamond. Carolyn was active in her local church, singing in the choir and helping with Bible study. She enjoyed card games, reading novels, and later in life got back into painting with watercolors. Most of all, she loved spending time with family, sharing stories and memories.
Carolyn was a caring, devoted mother and always wanted her family to come first. After the birth of her son, she stepped away from her accounting career to be able to spend more time with her family. As the children grew older, the entrepreneurial spirit grew in Dan and Carolyn. In 1985, they opened a small photo-finishing business, The Photory, in Sandy, Oregon, which they owned for the next 18 years. In the early years, Carolyn worked in The Photory, but later transitioned to doing only bookkeeping and accounting. In 1992, she stepped back into a full-time career in accounting at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort. She continued to work there, rising to the title of Senior Accounting Manager, until she retired in 2013.
Retirement gave Carolyn the opportunity for exploration and travel. She and Dan spent the next three and a half years traveling the country with their dogs, Ziggy, Wishbone, and Stout. They crossed the country multiple times. Carolyn especially enjoyed traveling to Maine, where her favorite dish of fresh caught lobster was always on the menu. Their travels eventually took them to Nokomis, Florida, where they fell in love with the community at Royal Coachman Resort. She and Dan became year round residents of this social and friendly community.
Carolyn lived out the rest of her life in the warm, humid weather of Florida, something she grew to enjoy and love. Her favorite pastimes were socializing with family and friends, playing games, and spending time in the pool, at least when it was 85 degrees. She was a caring mother, a devoted wife, a loving sister, and a friend to many. She had a warmth about her that made people feel comfortable, loved, and welcome. Her life was filled with family, laughter, music, friendship, and love, and those gifts will remain with everyone fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
