Catherine Basile

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Catherine (Katie) held strong moral and religious principles to her Italian culture and heritage. In her early years, she worked in the needle trades as a professional seamstress. In 1956, she married Giuseppe (Joe) Basile in Agrigento, Sicily. Both she and Joe had a strong work ethic and successfully raised two children in Canarsie, Brooklyn. They were both fortunate to see them grow up, marry, and have families of their own.

Katie was known for her love of family, cooking, sewing, and shopping. Whenever the opportunity presented itself, she loved to travel and celebrate special family events.

She is survived by her son, Pompeo (Joe) Basile and his wife Nancy: her daughter, Ronny (Raimonda) LaRocca and her husband, Pompeo (Joe) LaRocca: granddaughters Charlene LaRocca Hunn and her husband, Jason Hunn, Francesca and Adriana Basile; grandsons Giuseppe and Daniel LaRocca and Joseph Basile; great granddaughters- Jolene and Katielynn Hunn, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Salvatore and Filomena Licata; her husband Giuseppe (Joe) Basile, her brothers Joseph and Louis Licata, and her sister Joan (Giovanna) Caruana.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 11 am at Gulf Pines Memorial Park, 2401 Englewood Road, Englewood, Florida 34223. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
