

Edwin Robert Thompson, 93, of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025. Born on June 16, 1932, in Hartford, Connecticut, Ed was the son of the late Edwin Robert Thompson and Sophie Dubiel.
Ed grew up in Hartford and graduated from Hartford High School before beginning a long and successful career as a corporate credit manager with Diamond Lumber Company. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus in Connecticut, where he played softball and formed lifelong friendships rooted in faith and camaraderie.
A devoted Catholic, Ed was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice, where his faith continued to guide and sustain him throughout his life.
Ed raised his family in Windsor, Connecticut, and Londonderry, New Hampshire, where he was deeply involved in his community and happiest surrounded by loved ones. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ed was a devoted fan of the New York Giants, the UConn Huskies, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In his younger years, he played semiprofessional football and softball, fueling a lifelong love of the game and teamwork.
Known for his bright smile, infectious good nature, and gift for storytelling, Ed brought joy and laughter wherever he went. He faced life’s challenges with remarkable optimism and good spirits, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Ed was predeceased by his first wife of 27 years, Marcie Thompson (Laframboise). He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his daughters, Valerie (Peter) and Margo (Charles); and his stepsons, Robert (Deidre) and Jeffrey. He was a proud grandfather to Harmony (Randy), Dakota (Leah), Sean, Stella, Anna, Henry, and Oliver. Ed is also survived by his brother, Michael Thompson, and sister, Suzanne Donnellan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the IslandWalk Events Center, 19211 Tantino Drive, Venice, Florida. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather and share memories of Ed’s remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause dear to his heart.
Ed’s legacy lives on through the love of his family and the many lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
