Elizabeth G. Vaughn

Elizabeth "Liz" Vaughn passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at the age of 86. She is now reunited in spirit with her beloved husband, Edward Joseph Vaughn, who predeceased her on August 13, 2008.

Liz and Edward’s love story began on a serendipitous blind date on Friday the 13th while she was working for AT&T in New York City—a twist of fate that sparked a lifetime of partnership, travel, and adventure. Together, they shared a deep passion for sailing and spent countless cherished days on the open water. Over the years, Liz built a fulfilling and varied career, including serving with pride as a county clerk.

A woman of vibrant creativity, sharp organization, and lifelong learning, Liz took college horticulture courses and poured her heart into cultivating the world around her. She was infamous for making lists upon lists for everything, leaving organized plans tucked throughout her house. Her home and outdoor spaces were true personal sanctuaries. She found peace tending to a tranquil koi pond in her back screened area, while her large garden—thoughtfully designed with native plants to nurture local birds and insects—featured another smaller pond. Her botanical expertise and love for flowers also led her to become an active member and judge in a local Hibiscus Society.

Liz’s artistic eye extended to many passions. She was a skilled gourmet chef, created beautiful jewelry, mastered needlepoint, and was an active member of both the Englewood Camera Club and the Lemon Bay Conservancy. At home, she found joy in quiet pleasures—reading, solving sudoku, working on puzzles, and offering wise counsel and gentle advice to those closest to her. Warm and welcoming, she loved nothing more than striking up easy conversations with neighbors walking past her home.

Her life was forever enriched by her devoted animal companions. Over the years, she cared for many dogs, and most recently doted on her cherished "fur babies"—her Himalayan show cats: Savannah, Sky, and Shadow.

Her ashes will be placed with Edward's so they may be interred together at their plot in Mount Dora, Florida, located right beside the Fraser family plot.

She leaves behind a legacy of beauty, creativity, and steadfast friendship. She will be sorely missed by her close friends and her chosen "Florida family," including Sue and Leslie Holmes; Mollie and Morgen Holmes; Char Rowell; Angie Henry; and the many lives she touched with her warmth and wisdom.
