He was Born in Pennsauken, New Jersey, on November 22nd, 1962, to John Kenneth Layer, Sr. and Jean Elizabeth Layer. After graduating from Pennsauken High School, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to start a pool service business which he owned and operated for over 26 years. He retired to Englewood, Florida in the late summer of 2020.
John (Kenny) had a passion for sailing, boating and traveling. He was especially fond of warm sunny weather, the beach and the ocean. Over the years, Kenny’s affinity for travel took him to several islands in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, but his favorite vacation spot was a small island off the coast of Cancun, Mexico called Isla Mujeres.
Kenny embraced fellowship and loved spending time with friends. He would often refer to himself as Julie, the cruise director from the TV series, The Love Boat, since he was the go-to for planning parties, special events and group vacations. He was also known for his humble demeanor, his kind heart, his love of animals, and his eagerness to help others.
Kenny loved the Lord and often worshipped at Calvary Chapel in Inverness, Florida. His favorite Bible verse was 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
He is survived by his spouse of 19 years, Robert Whited, his sister Linda Huyard, his brother-in-law, Wayne Huyard, and their five children, Leah, Ben, Rebecca, Annabelle, and Lydia. Kenny was very close with his aunt Donna Carriero, his cousins Susie and Vicki, as well as many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
His ashes will be placed at Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery. In keeping with his wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Broward County Humane Society at: www.humanebroward.com/ways-to-give
