Molly Kathleen Richey, 89, passed away on August 8, 2025, in Englewood, Florida. She left this world in the same manner in which she lived – with strength, dignity, and grace. Molly was born to George and Thelma Hall in Vermontville, Michigan on December 7, 1935. She graduated from Vermontville High School in 1953 as class valedictorian.
In 1957, Molly married Donald “Mitch” Mitchell of Ogdensburg, NY. They fell in love while he was stationed in Michigan with the Army and she was a nursing student at Michigan State College. They moved to Ogdensburg, NY where Molly continued her nursing studies and graduated from the A. Barton Hepburn school of nursing. Together, Donald and Molly raised four children: Kathleen (Barry) Brodbeck, Connie (Douglas) Dean, Matthew (Diane) Mitchell and Mark (Susan) Mitchell. They celebrated 39 years of marriage before Donald’s passing in 1997. Molly was then married to William Richey from 2000 until his passing in 2003.
Upon retiring from her distinguished career in 1990 as a nurse and hospital administrator at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, she relocated to Englewood, FL but always returned to northern NY each summer for family reunions to enjoy the St. Lawrence River. She was able to take one last trip north just a few weeks before her passing. In retirement, she volunteered many hours within her Park Forest community and her church’s hospice program. She enjoyed extensive international travel, gardening and entertaining. In particular, she was known for her Thanksgiving feasts and Kentucky Derby parties. She loved an excuse to dress up and loved music - everything from the Irish Tenors to Taylor Swift. Molly was a pragmatic person who enjoyed hard work and helping others. A devoted mother and friend, her friends and family could always count on her help and companionship.
Molly was preceded in death by her parents and siblings (Lionel Hall, George “Bill” Hall and Priscilla Hulse). In addition to her 4 children, she leaves 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Molly was a woman of strong faith and a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes in Venice, FL. Services will be at a later date followed by a burial at St. Mary’s cemetery in Ogdensburg, NY. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a donation in her honor may do so at: Our Lady of Lourdes, 1301 Center Road Venice, FL 34292.
