RJ was born on August 23, 1957, in Tacoma WA to Jean and Robert James Moore Jr. His
grandfather founded the Tacoma Boat Company in Washington. RJ was the youngest of four
and the only boy. RJ went to Washington State University and graduated from the National
University in San Diego California, with a BA in Business Management. He was on the Dean's
list and honor roll. He worked for RJM Marine Consulting until 1985 when he was hired by the
Federal Aviation Administration. He worked as an air traffic controller for 28 years at Oakland
ARTCC. He also had his private pilot's license. It was his experience as both a pilot and an air
traffic controller that once helped him assist a pilot, stuck above the clouds. RJ's efforts helped
guide the pilot to land safely. RJ retired at the age of 56.
In 1987 RJ met the love of his life, Nicole, and they married on June 2, 1992. They spent the
first part of their lives together living in the mountains of Santa Cruz in California. They
eventually moved to Brentwood CA and it was there that they raised their son, Matthew, along
with RJ's daughters, Laura and Rachel, from a previous marriage. While living in Brentwood,
RJ was an active member of the Golden Hills Community Church. He spent 20 years teaching
Sunday School and sharing God's love.
In RJ's free time he would take his children camping and skiing. He loved the sunshine, the
water, and the outdoors. He loved dancing with his wife, golfing, and making the best grilled
cheese sandwiches.
When RJ retired, he, Nicole, and Matthew moved to Port Charlotte FL. They built a home there
and RJ rediscovered his passions for boating, fishing, and playing bridge. He joined the South
Cove Yacht Club with Nicole and spent time at the Elk’s Lodge making many friends. He and
Nicole attended the Englewood United Methodist Church. RJ loved having his daughters and
grandchildren visit. He would take them out boating and fishing. They spent countless hours in
the pool.
RJ was a kind and generous person. He was known for his personable nature, his sense of
humor, and his down-to-earth quality. He touched everyone’s heart. He brightened the room
and filled our lives with joy. RJ will forever be missed.
RJ is preceded in death by his father, Robert James Moore Jr, and his stepfather, David
Holcomb. He is survived by his wife, Nicole Moore, his children, Laura Hsieh, Rachel Moore,
and Matthew Moore, his grandchildren, Tristan Moore, Chandler Hsieh, and Edward Hsieh, his
mother, Jean Holcomb, his sisters, Shirley (Walter) Hartlauer, Barbara (Michael) Flatley, and
