Roger Boeckmann passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 25, at the age of 73. Roger was born in Queens, NY, on February 11, 1952, to Robert and Lillian Boeckmann, who predeceased him. Roger grew up in Sayville and Southampton, where he spent time with his aunt and uncle, Dot and Lee Nugent, who predeceased him. Roger is survived by his wife, Rhonda Boeckmann; his sons Bryan (Jennifer) and Jason (Hannah); grandchildren Alexandra (5), Mallory (1.5), Charlotte (2 mo.), Elka (10), Greta (7) and Atlas, (4), step-children Jordan, Ryan, and Nicole Schank, step-grandchildren Bentley Spunaugle (6) and Adele Schank (2), a brother Robert Boeckmann and a large extended family.
Roger completed the Aviation Power Plant Training at MacArthur Airport in Islip, NY, in 1969 and graduated from Southampton High School in 1970. Following high school, Roger graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK, and pursued his Airframe and Powerplant license from the FAA. A strong advocate of education, Roger earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Mount St. Mary’s College. Roger worked at Cessna/Textron Aviation for 47 years, where he received the first “Taking Care of the Customer Award.” Roger was a board member of the Westchester Aircraft Maintenance Association (WAMA) for 20 years. Roger was awarded the FAA Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award in 2022 for his lifelong dedication and service to the aviation industry. Roger retired and relocated to Florida, where he enjoyed walking, biking, and chasing sunsets with his wife Rhonda by his side.
Roger lived life to the fullest, and his legacy is one of love, kindness, adventure, and generosity. His proudest moments were watching his sons grow as they worked on cars, competed in mountain bike races, and spent time on the water in their boat. His unwavering support, love, and guidance shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Roger loved working on anything with an engine or fixing anything that needed attention. When he wasn’t working on one of his projects, he was helping friends and family with theirs. Roger was a member of the Saugerties Tractor Club and a car show enthusiast, and he could talk about cars and engines all day, making new friends along the way.
A celebration of life will be held in Southampton, NY, on September 6, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westchester Aircraft Maintenance Association, Inc., P. O. Box 131, Purchase, NY 10577.
