Sam was born on April 8, 1937, in Warsaw, New York, to Samuel and Ruth Lombard. He attended St. Lawrence University, the University at Buffalo, and Buffalo State College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. Being a true Patriot, he proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Sam spent his professional career in sales with Owens Corning Fiberglass before becoming the owner and president of Indiana Precision Plastics. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work and always gave his best.
Sam had many passions throughout his life. He enjoyed playing golf and took up boxing as a way to help manage his Parkinson’s disease. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed books about World War I and World War II, as well as war movies. He was a lifelong and devoted Buffalo Bills fan—truly a member of the Bills Mafia—and loved all things Purdue University.
But more than anything, Sam loved his family. He was silly, funny, hardworking, and always put family first. He was the kind of person who always showed up when you needed him. He was loyal—always there, always ready to help—and he knew no strangers. Sam had a gift for making people feel welcome. If you knew Sam, you loved him.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Terry Lombard; his children, Jeffrey Scott Lombard, Tracey Lombard Garriga (Tom), and Kelly Lombard Bates; and his eight grandchildren, Lindsay Bruggeman (Nathan), Ryan Lombard (Jordan), Jake Garriga (Allison), Carley Watters, Tess Adams (Blake), Dassah Bates, Sam Bates, and Amanda Bates. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and his brother, Dennis Lombard (Susan), along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ruth Lombard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:15 p.m. on October 9, 2026, at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Sam’s memory.
Sam lived his life with humor, determination, loyalty, and a deep love for his family. He showed up, made people laugh, and left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
