Born on October 18, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Scheril was the beloved daughter of the late Bernard and Leona Yahner. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 44 years, James Murphy; her parents; and other cherished family members who welcomed her home.
Scheril is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kathleen Oswald (Dennis), Beth Keller (James) and the late Kimberley Murphy-Lauria; her son, Scott Murphy; her son-in-law, Randy Lauria; her treasured grandchildren, Luke, Trevor, Nicolas, Ryan, and Kaitlynn; and her adored great-grandchildren, Talan, Benjamin, Maxwell, and Tatum. She is also survived by her dear sister, Arlene Sliwa.
Scheril retired from the Ford Motor Company Utica Trim Plant after many years of dedicated service. A talented seamstress, she also sewed for several companies and proudly operated her own sewing business, sharing her skill and craftsmanship with many.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — spending time with family (so long as the visits didn’t last too long), reading a good book, and challenging herself with puzzles. Scheril had a sharp wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Her favorite saying, “I’m trying to be good, but it’s hard when you’re old,” will forever bring a smile to the faces of those who loved her.
Scheril’s strength, independence, and humor will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
