

Stephen Alton Powers, 81, passed on March 5, 2026 in Venice, Florida at Venice Palms Senior Living home in Memory Care. He was born August 27, 1944, in Ames, Iowa to Alton Woodruff and Alice Louise (Topp) Powers.
He worked most of his life in the steel business, retiring from Kenwal Steel in Dearborn, MI in 2017. He enjoyed retirement with his wife Linda with homes in South Carolina, Michigan and Florida. He enjoyed golfing, smoking his cigars, and the company of many good friends! Steve was a member in good standing of several clubs, including The Detroit Athletic Club, Lansing Country Club, Country Club of the South, Long Cove Country Club, and Blythefield Country Club to name a few.
Steve attended Michigan State University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969, was President of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity in 1966, and has been a loyal Spartan supporter of the Michigan State Football program for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife Linda (Kuiper) Powers of 30 years, his son Jerry Powers, former wife Monica Gail Powers, brother and wife John and Nancy Powers; sister-in-law Janine Powers; nephew & wife John & Anna Powers, their children Liam, Elsa and Sabine; nephew & wife Travis & Karen Powers; niece Lorien Powers; son-in-law Jason Pridmore; mother-in-law Barbara Kuiper; brother-in-law & wife David & Lyndi Kuiper; brother-in-law & wife Richard & Celine Kuiper, nephew Jason & wife Amanda Kuiper and their children Taylor & Hayden; niece Erin Kuiper and her children Madelyn & Emma; sister-in-law Kathy Sack and her spouse Bill; niece Lisa & spouse Joe VanderWerff and their children Michaela and Louis; niece Jackie & spouse Brett Danhof and their children Natalie and Andrea Whalen, Maddie and Khloe Danhof; sister-in-law Eva and spouse Mark Solick and nephew Nicholas, and niece Janie & spouse Michael Romero and their child Bradford Romero.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents Alton Woodruff and Alice Louise (Topp) Powers; brother James Hiram Powers, daughter Kristi Lynn (Powers) Pridmore, father-in-law Charles F. Kuiper, and niece Angela Kuiper.
A funeral and celebration of life service will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the spring or early summer of 2026. Information will be forthcoming soon.
