She graduated from New London High School in 1965 and went on to attend Southern Connecticut University. Susan devoted much of her life to her family and was a loving homemaker, while also operating a state-licensed daycare center for many years.
Being a mother and grandmother was her life’s greatest purpose and deepest joy. Nothing made her prouder. Her love for her grandsons knew no bounds; they were her greatest treasures, and their love brought sunshine to her days and immeasurable happiness to her life.
Susan enjoyed traveling, especially cruising to many destinations, with Venice holding a special place in her heart as a place she never forgot. She found joy in being near the water, spending time with friends, and appreciating life’s simplest pleasures. She deeply cherished her time with friends, whose company brought her comfort, laughter, and joy throughout her life. Susan was also known for her love of Tinkerbell, flip flops, salty air and wine.
Her honesty and straightforward nature were defining qualities. She spoke her mind with sincerity and always remained true to herself.
She is predeceased by her father Laurence, who left a lasting void in her heart; her dear Aunt Kay Dolan; her close friend Marion Burke; and many other friends and family.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband Edward Speer; her sons Thomas (Darleen) Watson and Stephen Watson; her daughter and best friend Heidi Kolvig; son-in-law Richard; and her beloved grandsons, Erik, Jack (Dylin), and Luke, who were 3 huge pieces of her heart. She is also survived by nephews Larry (Denise) Scanlon, Sean Scanlon, Stan (Tammy) Speer, niece Meaghan Scanlon, and many cherished friends and extended family members.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In Sue’s memory, the family has requested that you enjoy each moment and live your life fully with no regrets.
