It is with great sadness that we inform you of Tom's passing on Monday, June 30, 2025. He departed with profound peacefulness, without pain and definitely on his terms.
He was born in Rutland, VT on 10/20/1937 as the eldest son of Thomas H. and M. Charlotte Nugent. Tom was a 1955 graduate of Mount St. Joseph's Academy and attended Castleton College. After fulfilling his military commitment, he embarked on a 20 year career with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company followed by 25 years as a very successful salesman at Levitz Furniture.
Tom was predeceased in death by his parents, his first wife, Carol of 37 years, and his second wife, Linda (sadly after only one and a half years of marriage).
Tom is survived by his sons, John Johnson (Sarah) and Brian (Kara) Smith, younger brother, John, a niece and two nephews, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren and a multitude of friends.
On a lighter note, in Tom's early retirement he enjoyed his summertime role as parking director and goodwill ambassador in Ogunquit, ME. The other three seasons he was devoted to his role as unofficial Mayor of The Fiddlers' Green Nature Trail Condominiums. He always made himself available to offer his opinions on a myriad of subjects and always willing to work on or direct in any new projects.
On Tom's full retirement, he enjoyed his role as President of "The Condo's" board and made many lifelong friends while in this position.
There will be no services per Tom's request. There will be a burial in Rutland, VT as a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a food bank of your choice
