

Walter Raymond LeVasseur, known to family and friends as Walt, passed away on June 10, 2026. He was born in Houlton, Maine, on December 14, 1934, to Louis and Mary LeVasseur. He was one of ten children—five girls and five boys—in a close-knit family whose dedication to service was clear, with Walt and his four brothers all serving in the military.
Walt graduated from high school in 1952 and pursued two years of college education. In 1951, he moved to Meriden, Connecticut, where he worked for the International Silver Company. His life was marked by a deep commitment to his country, beginning with his enlistment in the U.S. Army in December 1954 in Houlton, Maine.
Walt married Marianna Paolillo on June 7, 1975. They shared 51 years of marriage and life together. After retiring, they lived in Englewood, Florida and later Fredericksburg, Virginia, before settling in Rotonda West, Florida. Walt worked for the Post Office in Port Charlotte, Florida until his retirement in 2006.
A proud veteran, Walt was a member of the American Legion Post 113 and a life member of both the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 82 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 759 in Port Charlotte. His honors include the Silver Star, Bronze Stars, Purple Hearts, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and many others, reflecting his courage and dedication.
Walt is survived by his beloved wife Marianna, nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Mary LeVasseur, and his son, Walter Jr. and his many brothers and sisters.
His legacy of bravery, service, and love will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17th from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Kays-Ponger, Uselton & Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Venice. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Englewood on Thursday, June 18th at 11:00am.
