

Arlene Roper, 79, of Ojai, CA died peacefully at her Ojai home, Sunday August 17, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Arlene was born July 29, 1935 in Bloomington, CA. to Donald (Lamar, KS) and Grace Gorman (Huntington Beach, CA). At age 17, she married Richard Roper and together they had three children.
Arlene and Richard began their family in Venice, CA, and then moved to Anaheim, CA before moving to Ventura County in 1966. While living in Ventura, she was involved in the Eastminister Presbyterian Church; children's school PTA, Girls Scouts and managed Wells Fargo and Bryson Escrow offices. She relocated to Ojai in 1976 where she became active in community projects such as the Friends of the Library, Ojai Music Festival, Ojai Presbyterian Church and Ojai BPW Club.
Family was everything to Arlene and she especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed going on family vacations, taking the grandchildren on special vacations or out to dinner and traveling abroad with her husband. Arlene also enjoyed working in her gardens and decorating her home.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents (Donald and Grace) and her brother Larry. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard; brother, Ronald Gorman (Culver City); daughter, Terry; sons, Robert and Jerry; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Arlene will be greatly missed by all family members due to her positive attitude, compassion for others and love for her community.
She is now free from her cancer and Alzheimer's and can enjoy eternal life with Jesus. There will be a private family service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to HELP of Ojai, 111 West Santa Ana St., Ojai, CA 93023.
