Bruce Albert Nelson

Bruce Nelson of Ventura passed away Saturday May 21, 2011. He was 92.

Bruce was born to Bruce Sr. and Edith Nelson in Santa Ana, CA and grew up in Tuolumne, CA. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, then as a captain in the Air Force Reserves for several years. He was a highly decorated B-17 pilot receiving a “Flying Cross”. After the war, Bruce became an engineer working at the National Cash Register Company for 37 years.

Bruce Settled into Ventura County with his wife and family. Bruce was a volunteer at the Ventura Fairgrounds and a loyal member of the Lyon’s Club where he helped to build the “Blind Trail”. However, to the people who knew him best, he was “Mr. Fix-it”, the neighborhood handyman.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Donetta Nelson and now leaves behind his sons: Dr. Bruce (wife Susan) Nelson and Edward Nelson; grandchildren: Sheri Jackson (husband John) and Eric Nelson; great-grandchildren: Kimberly, Hailey and Allyssa Jackson and many close friends and extended family.

Private services will be held (at a later date) at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.

Anyone wishing to make donations may do so to the Lyon’s Club.

Dearest Bruce and Susan, and family - I was so sorry Bruce, to hear about your Dad - you (both of you) and I have been friends for many many years and I remember your dad - what a wonderful person he was and such a sweet man to us when we were kids growing up.
