He was born on June 17, 1938, in Villegas, Jalisco Mexico, to Monico Ortega and Victoriana Ruelas. Carlos lived his early life in Villegas before beginning his “American Dream” in the United States.
In the early 1970’s, his hard work and love for agriculture led him to become a farm foreman for the Petty’s lemon ranch and their hillside avocado ranch in Carpinteria, CA. After 15 years of work in Carpinteria, honoring Carlos’ hard work the Petty’s gave him the opportunity to continue as a foreman in the Saticoy Lemon Ranch until 2018.
Out of all the wonderful attributes Carlos had to offer, the one that will be remembered the most by family and friends is his warm heart and welcoming nature. Carlos opened the doors to his home to family, friends and strangers alike. While at Carlos’ home you can expect a warm meal and a great conversation.
On his free time, Carlos enjoyed family time, relaxing, listening to his favorite songs and watching soccer.
Carlos will forever be cherished by his family and friends. He will always be thought of with a smile and forever loved and missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Engracia Ortega; seven brothers; three sisters; sons, Gilberto Ortega (Irma) and David Ortega (Monica); daughters, Enriqueta Ortega (Gonzalo), Soledad O. Mejia (Juan), Sabina O. Vigil (Antonio), Carmen Ortega, and Patricia O. Stephens (Cameron); as well as seventeen grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
